Au Sable Point

During our fall trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, as we toured Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, we stopped and hiked in to Au Sable Lighthouse - a bit less than a mile along the coast of Lake Superior from the nearest parking area. We were hoping for a nice sunset, and spent our time waiting for the sun to go down shooting images of the lighthouse, and surrounding area.

At last the sun began to sink, but the skies just refused to change color! While waiting and hoping, I turned around (putting the lighthouse behind me) to see if there was any reflected light on the clouds behind. I was rewarded with the soft pastels on the gathering storm across Tahquamenon Bay, as you see at right.

While this wasn’t the dramatic image I had hoped to find, I love its subtlety, and its warm, comfortable look. What do you think?
